The animals become less active, the trees look less upright and lively, and the chickens lay less frequently. The vigour and chirpiness of spring and summer seem to be becoming loose and tatty, like favourite jeans aging.”

With September the year shifts into autumn so we see the last of the courgette flowers and corn on the cob and quail come into season.
